Men, You Should Use Twitter to Market to Women

twitter_bird_profileTwitter is proving to be an excellent vehicle for driving traffic to a main hub, whether it be your blog, Website or both, and it continues to explode in popularity as new users jump on daily. Twitter was created as a community builder and as you consider using Twitter for your business, it would be wise to understand that it is at its best as a relationship builder – especially when it comes to communicating with women. The most successful online stories are those that are authentic and transparent; after all women can spot honesty immediately.

As an example, I had a great phone conversation just this morning with someone I tweeted with this weekend. I had seen her website and was incredibly impressed with not only her concept and product, but also with the strategy and use of Social Media she has executed in order to market the very successful Savvyauntie.com. One of her primary means of getting the word out was through Twitter. We had a great chat for nearly an hour sharing information, philosophies and strategies, and I feel I now have a new friend and colleague. All of this – a result of Twitter.

I thought it might also be helpful to post the  for Twitter beginners. These tips, further explained in PC Magazine, can not only enhance your Twitter experience, but they will also enable you to tweet like a pro in no time.

One of my personal favorites is #9 and, more specifically, I use TweetDeck. TweetDeck is an application that organizes all of your Friends, Direct Messages, Replies and much more.  As you use Twitter, having a station to monitor all of your activity in one place quickly becomes invaluable.

1. Shrink Your URLs
2. RT = Retweet
3. Direct Messaging
4. Use the @ Sign
5. Search For Your Friends
6. Categorize Your Tweets for Added Visibility
7. Share Pictures
8. Tweet from Your Phone
9. Pick a Good Desktop Client
10. Download a Mobile Client

  1. Stephanie, great insights into Twitter as a communication vehicle. In my Twisting experience i’ve had to “turn off” certain individuals that don’t offer any substantial and/or meaningful info.

From a female perspective, how do you deal with information overload? And, are your mobile updates the same as your online updates?

Again… Thanks for CLEARLY noting Twitter as a communication vehicle!

  2. I love your conclusions, but where is the data/research that shows the effectiveness. Are these just conclusions you have reached through anecdotal evidence or is it based in some survey or particular campaign performance?
